Summer has arrived and the weather is starting to heat up! So is our new website—it’s heating up with our new blogs! Let me introduce you to our inaugural blog entry! This is something exciting on our newly designed website and something we will be doing on a weekly basis. This is a way for us to stay connected with the community, share what we are doing, spotlight exciting news, and make you aware of the newest trends you should be aware of.
Summer is a time of vacations, beaches, time at the lake, cabins, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. We all remember our summers from when we were younger. I am sure we can all pinpoint a memory from childhood that stands out from all the rest. It is also a time for experimentation which means awareness is key. Ulster Prevention Council doesn’t stop during the summer. Even though we are not in the classroom, we are still working in the community setting and facilitating groups for the youth like Positive Action which is an empowerment group for teens ages 12-14 held at our office on Wednesdays from 5-6pm. We are holding Zoom Webinars on various topics for parents, caregivers, and community members on the drug trends of the youth in Ulster County—these are held three times a month: two from 6-7 pm and one from 12-1 pm.
Not only that, but we also love to see faces in the community and do outreach! We will be tabling at events like the Blueberry Festival in Ellenville on August 8th and Hope Rocks in Saugerties on August 15th. We hope to see some of you at these amazing events. Please come by and say hi!
UPC is here all year for any of your prevention needs. You can contact us via our website or call us at 845-458-4506. We are here for you! Please check back weekly to see the newest blog entries. If you have any ideas or topics that you might like covered, let me know by emailing me at jryan@familyservicesny.org. Happy summer and stay cool! Always remember, every decision is By Choice!
